Art Elements and Design Principles Vocabulary
Art Elements:
Line - lines within an image that leads the eye to another point in the image, or out of the image
Shape - the way subjects connect to each other in a photo form
Color - an attribute of things that results from the light they reflect, transmit, or emit in so far as this light causes a visual sensation that depends on its wavelengths
Value - the lightness or darkness of a color
Texture - the visual and especially tactile quality of a surface
Volume/ Form - the shape and structure of an object
Design Principles:
Balance - If an image is the same on both sides, it is symmetrical; it can also be asymmetrical and still have balance
Harmony - the subjective evaluation of a color image in terms of its balance of complementary hues, the choice of colors, quality of use of color, etc
Contrast - the separation between the darkest and brightest areas of the image
Movement - a photographic picture featuring the subject in motion or action
